THE READING GARDEN

Transforming reading into a fun and relatable experience for young learners.

Building a Reading Garden: Phonics & Decoding

This course is all about phonics and decoding. As a gardener builds a strong foundation, students will learn to connect letters and letter groups (graphemes) with their sounds, helping them "build" or decode words they see in print.

Sprouting Sounds: A Phonemic Awareness Adventure

This course focuses on phonemic awareness, the first essential step in the Science of Reading. Just as a seed begins to sprout, this course helps children hear and play with the individual sounds (phonemes) in words

A young child and an adult are sitting at a wooden desk in a classroom, focusing on some written materials. The adult is holding a notebook and appears to be helping the child, who is intently looking at papers on the desk. Nearby are pencils and other school supplies.

Harvesting Comprehension: Understanding the Story

This course covers comprehension, the ultimate goal of reading. Once the garden is in full bloom, it's time to "harvest" the meaning. This class teaches students to truly understand and engage with what they read, connecting ideas and making sense of the text.

Flourishing Fluency: Reading with Expression

This course focuses on fluency. Once the garden is planted, it needs to flourish! This class helps students read smoothly, with speed and expression, so they can focus less on sounding out words and more on enjoying the story.

Growing Knowledge: Exploring the World to Build Understanding

This course focuses on building background knowledge and vocabulary. Just as a garden thrives on rich, fertile soil, reading comprehension flourishes when a reader has prior knowledge about the topic. This class helps students explore the world around them through various subjects, expanding their vocabulary and building a knowledge base that will help them understand what they read.
